Biography

André lived at Garst 6 in Winschoten and was a Mennonite minister and local leader of the Dutch Union, which resisted German rule. When this organization was banned, he joined the resistance (OD and BS). In January 1944 he was arrested by the Germans but released after a few days. On April 15, 1944 he was arrested again by v.d. Hof and deported via Vucht to various camps. Here he was a great support for the prisoners. On March 10, 1945 he died of typhus in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp.
