According to family records, Viktor Thormählen died on 18th January 1944 as Rittmeister. The pothumous awarding of the Ritterkreuz gives the rank of Oberleutnant der Reserve as does the OKH-Listing. Possibly he was posthumously promoted to Rittmeister. Several other sources indicate 16th January as the date of his death.
