The following newspaper excerpt (dated 28.12.1942) describes why Tataranu received the Knight’s Cross…

“Knight’s Cross for Romanian Officers:

The Führer has also awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross to two Romanian officers, namely Generalleutnant Tataranu and Oberst Korna [sic]. Both of these officers eliminated enemy penetrations along the Don river through a combination of skillful leadership and ruthless dedication to the action.”
