Tile Tray Battle of Bailén

This memorial depicts the battlefield in the Battle of Bailén.
The Battle of Bailén took place from 16 to 19 July 1808 between the Spanish Army of Andalusia and the 2nd Corps of the French army and resulted in the first ever open field defeat of the Napoleonic army. On the French side, 2,200 men were killed, 400 wounded and 17,635 captured. The Spanish losses were 243 killed and 735 wounded.

The tile tray hangs on the façade of the Casa de Postas, where the terms of the French surrender where established, to be signed on 22 July 1808.
