German War Cemetery Šilonys

Near the hamlet of Šilonys is a German war cemetery from the First World War. Well-hidden in natur, the contours of a low earth wall can still be recognized. The rampart, like the cemetery itself, is quite overgrown. Within this fence are still 29 concrete crosses with generally still legible names. There are a few dozen Germans here, most of them known but also some unknown victims. There are also about 20 Russians, all unknown. There is also a small wooden memorial cross on the site. All soldiers buried here died in the region in August 1915.

The cemetery is located to the left of the civil cemetery, next to the fence of the civil cemetery you can recognize with some good will a path that leads to the graves.

Location: Šilonys. Reachable from the main road 143 (Žasliai - Jonava), from this road it is still 2 km on a dirt but well passable road. The exit from the 143 is clearly marked with brown signs.
