The first war memorial in Hesdin-l’Abbé, inaugurated on 12 September 1920, consisted of an obelisk in the cemetery.
On 3 November 2002, a new monument was unveiled and inaugurated in the centre of the village. It was placed there as part of the complete redevelopment of the village centre, making it more visible to everyone.
The new monument was designed by architect Fournier.
It commemorates the victims of the First and Second World Wars and the war in Algeria.
