Zentenarmedaille

The "Zentenarmedaille", also known under the name "Kaiser Wilhelm I. Erinnerungsmedaille 1897", was instituted on behalf of the 100th birthday of Wilhelm I, by his grandson, Wilhelm II on March 22nd, 1897.

The bronze medal has a diameter of 40 mm and hangs on a 36 mm wide ribbon.
The front shows Wilhelm I in military uniform with on the left the inscription WILHELM / DER / GROSSE / DEUTSCHE / KAISER and on the right the inscription KOENIG / VON / PREUSSEN.
The reverse shows the royal regalia the German State Crown, an orb, sword, and scepter placed upon a pillow surrounded by oak leaves. On the left side a laurel is shown with besides it the text ZUM ANDENKEN AN DEN HUNDERTSTEN GEBURTSTAG DES GROSSEN KAISERS WILHELM I. 1797 22.MAERZ 1897.
