High State Medal of Ghazi Mir Bacha Khan

The Ghazi Mir Bacha Khan Medal is a distinguished civilian and military award, classified as a High State Medal in Afghanistan. Named in honor of Ghazi Mir Bacha Khan, an ethnic Tajik celebrated as a hero of the Second Anglo-Afghan War (1878–1880).

Establishment and Award Criteria
Instituted on May 17, 1982, by President Babrak Karmal, the Ghazi Mir Bacha Khan Medal is awarded to military and civilian recipients for exceptional service in:
- Defensive operations within Afghanistan
- Peace and security efforts
- Social, economic, and political development

The award has been bestowed upon senior NATO military leaders and high-ranking officers. Civilian recipients include individuals who have excelled in education, social work, human rights, public service, and community development. Reports on whether the medal continues to be awarded under the Taliban regime remain uncertain.

Medal Description
The Ghazi Mir Bacha Khan Medal is circular and has a golden appearance. It is suspended from a striped ribbon featuring pale blue, red, and pale green colors.

- Reverse: Inscribed with raised Dari script*: مدال دولتی غازی میربچه خان (Ghazi Mir Bacha Khan State Medal)

*Dari is the Afghan dialect of Farsi (Persian).
