The Kinkead Trophy came into being in honor of F/L. S.M. Kinkead who was killed while attempting to break the world air speed record in 1928. The trophy was donated by family and friends of Kinkead, who was an instructor at RAF Cranwell from 1920-1924.
It was presented to RAF Cranwell College in 1929 and awarded until 1958 to the Squadron the member of which had won the R M Groves Memorial Prize. The trophy was merged with the Groves Prize in 1958.
Award Criteria: The Kinkead Trophy is awarded to the winner of the RM Groves Prize and to the graduate placed first in the overall final order of merit for flying skills.
