Beloningspenningen 1814-1815

The Amsterdam-based 'Main Committee for the encouragement and support of the armed service in the Netherlands' instituted four honorary medals in 1816 for "those who have committed themselves to the defense of Dutch independence" [from France]. The medals were approved by royal decree of September 27, 1833 to be worn as a medal on the uniform. The accompanying ribbon was orange.

The design is the same for all four medals, only the inscription differs per medal. The design is a round medal with a laurel wreath on both sides. In contrast to the other three, the Naarden medal has two classes: silver and bronze.

In addition to the medal, the recipient also received a certificate on behalf of the Main Committee.

A total of 1269 medals were awarded, of which the majority (901) belonged to the defenders of Naarden.
