Operation Flagpole

Secret meeting at high level, prior to Operation Torch, between US General Mark W. Clark representing the Allies and General Charles E Mast, leader of a group of pro-Allied Vichy French officers, held at a coastal villa in Messelmoun, northern French Algeria on 22 October 1942. The purpose was to obtain the cooperation of the Vichy French in Operation Torch.
