William was born on August 23 1914 in Weston Ontario, the son of George William Rollings and Theodora Rollings nee Hunter (deceased) of Allenford Ontario. They were married on November 12 1913 in Toronto. His sister and heiress was Mrs. Doreen Ann Irvine nee Rollings.

He was a salesman and during the summer an electrical and mechanic and he was member of the United Church. His hobbies were motorcycle racing, electronics and flying and his sports were hockey, baseball, swimming, hunting and fishing.
He enlisted on March 11 1941 in Toronto and he went on September 1 1942 thereafter overseas to the UK.

William was killed in action on Saturday May 1 1943 age 28 due to a crash at the Vennenbergweg, hamlet Vennenberg, municipality Dalfsen before or after an attack on Essen in Germany. The other fallen RAF Volunteer Reserve crew members were: Sgt Herbert C. Ellis in grave 6-1-10., P/O Leslie J. Ellis age 20 in grave 6-1-9, Sgt John B. Browne age 20 in grave 6-1-8, Sgt Robert Williams age 21 in grave 6-1-7 and Sgt Stanley S. McLellan in grave 6-1-6. The other fallen RAF crew member was Sgt Rex L. Le Page age 20 in grave 6-1-11.

He was awarded on July 31 1942 the Air Observer’s Badge.
He served with the 44 (R.A.F.) Sqdn Royal Canadian Air Force.
