"Sergeant (Acting Staff-Sergeant) Dean Montague Clarke has served in the capacity of Regimental Orderly Room Clerk with the Regimental Headquarters of the 1st Field Regiment (Royal Canadian Horse Artillery) since its arrival in the Northwest Europe theatre of operations. His work at all times demanded long and tedious hours but even under the most stressing of circumstances his continued cheerfulness and energetic willingness inspired the greatest confidence in his senior officers and enabled them to be free to take a more active part in the many regimental duties outside of the regimental office. During the preparations for the crossing of the Ijssel River and again during the battle for Apeldoorn, his knowledge and ability in the handling of fire plans largely contributed to the successful participation of the regiment on both occasions. He has been of outstanding service to his regiment."
