Biography

Alan was born on September 24, 1920 in Montreal, the son of Arthur Leaman Foote (Scottish) and May Foote nee Street (English) of Toronto. He had one brother and one sister.

He was a student and member of the Church of England. He spoke English and French and German at the high school. His hobby was flying and his sports were fencing, hockey, football, soccer, basketball, skiing, tennis, cricket, lacrosse and swimming.

He enlisted on April 25 1941 in Toronto and he went thereafter on January 24 1942 overseas to the UK.

Alan was killed in action on Friday January 8 1943 age 22 due to a crash at Hackfort west of Vorden before or after an attack on Duisburg in Germany. The other fallen RAF Volunteer Reserve crew members were Sgt Maxwell W. Stephenson age 23 in grave 5-6, Sgt Munro McKenzie age 19 in grave 5-6, Sgt William T. McLennan age 30 in grave 7, Sgt George Mitchell in grave 5-6, Sgt Patrick G. Brogan age 19 in grave 8 and Sgt Robert Wardrop in grave 9.

He served with the 9 (R.A.F.) Sqdn Royal Canadian Air Force.
