Biography

David was born on October 16 1922 in Leamington Ontario, the son of John George Brown and Hazel Elizabeth Brown nee Kemp of Amherstburg, Ontario.

He was married on October 12 1942 in Powick Village Worcestershire England with Marigold Mary Arklers Brown nee Curtiss of Powick Village and their child was E.L. Brown (1943).

His only brother was deceased during the infancy.

He was a student and member of the United Church.

His hobby was collecting stamps and his sports were track and swimming.

He served from 1937-38 and 1940-1941 with the R.O.T.C at school. He enlisted on June 28 1941 then the RCAF in Windsor Ontario and he went on May 12 1942 thereafter overseas to the UK.

David was killed in action on Wednesday July 14 1943 age 20 due to a crash at Fellenoord, municipality Drunen. He was temporarily buried at the cemetery in Tilburg before being reburied on June 26 1945 at the Bergen op Zoom Canadian War Cemetery.
The other fallen RCAF crew members were buried then at the cemetery Gilzerbaan in Tilburg: P/O Alan O. Smuck age 25 in grave A1-29-30 and F/Sgt Douglas G. McKay age 23 in grave A1-29-30.
The other fallen RAF Volunteer Reserve crew members were also buried at this cemetery: Sgt John Foggon age 19 in grave A1- 29-30 and Sgt Robert. Barneveld age 20 in grave A1-29-30.
RAF crew member F/O J.J. Kelly survived the crash and he became then a prisoner of war and RAF crew member Sgt B. Domigan also survived the crash and he could evade then.

On his headstone: "I HAVE LOST MY LIFE BUT FOUND GOD" "WE DIE SO THAT WE MIGHT LIVE"

He served with the 408 Sqdn Royal Canadian Air Force.
