Biography

Robert was born on April 25 1917 in Revelstoke British Columbia, the son of Andrew Nesbitt McIntyre and Kathleen Mary McIntyre nee Borden of Vancouver.
He had two brothers and two sisters. Another brother was already deceased during the infancy.

He was a student and member of the United Church. His sports were rowing and ski jumping and his hobby was playing piano.

He served as a Cadet from September 7 1940 till May 1 1941 with the U.B.C Contingent COTC of the Non-Permanent Active Militia of Canada. He enlisted on May 2 1941 then the RCAF in Vancouver and he went on February 9 1942 thereafter overseas to the UK.

Robert was killed in action on Friday October 2 1942 age 25 due to a crash near the Bedelaarspad at Sevenum before or after an attack on Krefeld in Germany. He was temporarily buried then at the Military Cemetery in Venlo before being reburied on August 26 1947 at the Jonkerbos War Cemetery.

The other fallen RAF Volunteer Reserve crew members and also temporarily buried in Venlo were Sgt Ernest L. Moore age 20 in grave 20-D-4 and F/Sgt William Orange in grave 20-D-8.
The fallen RAF crew members and also temporarily buried in Venlo were S/Ldr William R. Greenslade, Canadian, (DFC, AFC) in grave 20-D-3, Sgt Marshal K. Smith age 21 in grave 20-D-6, Sgt Frederick L. Hughes age 21 in grave 20-D-7 and Sgt Benjamin F. Goldsmith age 22 in grave 20-D-5.

At the crash site is a monument with the names of the fallen crew members. His name is also mentioned at the Cenotaph in Kamloops British Columbia.

He served with the 149 (R.A.F.) Sqdn Royal Canadian Air Force.
