Period:
Second World War (1939-1945)
Citation:
"Capt. Guy Fournier has worked for Resistance since 1942 when he was enlisted as a member of a resistance organisation, for which he became departmental head in the Savoy.

When an inter-allied mission was sent to S.E. France he prepared and carried out numerous reception operations for it in his area.
He made many reconnaissances on skis (some lasting nearly 24 hours) in order to find suitable grounds in difficult, mountainous country, during a period of dense occupation.

One of his grounds was attacked by the enemy during a dropping operation in October 1943. Capt. Fournier immediately placed himself at the head of the Reception Committee and the germans were driven off with considerable losses.
All the material was recovered and used.

Together with the battalion commander of the Beaufortin region and a representative of the mission, he helped to organise reception arrangements for the daylight dropping operation on the Col des Saisies in which 72 aircraft took part and seven agents were dropped.

Capt. Fournier took part, with his battalion, in numerous engagements with superior German forces which resulted in the liberation of the Savoie.
The fact that these engagements could be carried out with adequate armament was largely owing to this officer's foresight, dovotion to duty and persistence in finding suitable grounds over a period of two years, in spite of numerous disappointments and difficulties.

it is recommended that he be awarded the Military Cross."
