Biography

Legions-Oberschütze Maarten Lulofs lived in The Hague and worked as a painter.

He was killed in the northern part of the Eastern Front, struck by an infantry bullet in the temple.

His remains were initially buried in the Ehrenfriedhof (cemetery) of the 2nd SS Infantry Brigade (mot) at Krasnoye-Selo, field E, row 1, grave 4. He was later reinterred in the war cemetery in Veliky Novgorod.

He was one of seven siblings. They have all since passed away, and all but one sister eventually immigrated to the Chicago area in Illinois. According to the family, at the outbreak of World War II, he was captured by German forces and sent to the Russian front.
