Biography

In May 1940, Marie-Louise CLOAREC, a childcare worker, wanted to do something for her country. She left Carhaix for Grenoble, where she worked as a governess for an officer and followed the family when he was posted to Algiers.
Joining the Women's Signal Corps in Algiers on January 11, 1943, as a 2nd class assistant operator, Cloarec decided, with three comrades (Eugénie Djendi, Pierrette Louin and Suzanne Mertzizen), to volunteer to become a radio operator for the Central Bureau of Intelligence and Action (BCRA). Trained in England, she was parachuted into the Limoges region on the night of April 5-6, 1944, with the rank of second lieutenant. Arrested on April 27 in Paris and interned in Fresnes, she was transferred to the Ravensbrück camp on August 8, 1944, with her three comrades. The four women were executed on January 18, 1945.
