Biography

Daniël Voortman was born on March 28th, 1903 as son to Daniel Voortman (April 27th, 1881, the Hague) and Gerritje Boer, November 26th, 1878, Ridderkerk).
Towards the end of World War II, Voortman was the Municipal Commander in Drachten with the Dutch Interior Forces. His alias was "Hagen." He was also director of the MULO (Municipal Secondary School) in Drachten.
After the war, the NVK (Dutch National Recovery) was founded, intended to promote the mental and physical recovery of the Dutch population and provide them with financial support. Voortman became its chairman in the Drachten district.
