Biography

Sergeant. No. 9 Squadron RAF. Air gunner. Son of Thomas Wardrop and Agnes Wardrop (née Kilpatrick) from Hamilton, Lanarkshire. Husband of Winifred Agnes Wardrop (née Johnstone).

Killed in action when his Lancaster W4159 was hit by a German night fighter during a mission to Duisburg and crashed near the Hackfort in Vorden. The entire crew was killed and is buried in the General Cemetery in Vorden.

In 2022, Omkijkpunt published the book “De 20 geallieerde gezichten van Vorden” (The 20 Allied Faces of Vorden). This book tells the stories of the 20 Allied soldiers buried in Vorden, including that of Robert Wardrop.
