Henry Earl O’Brien, born on 15 August 1922 in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, joined the RCAF at 18, training as an air gunner. After arriving in the UK, he flew 23 operations between September 1942 and March 1943 as part of 50 Squadron.
On the Dams Raid, O’Brien witnessed the Eder Dam’s destruction with what he described as a "front center" view.
Four months later, during his final mission, O’Brien bailed out over Holland and was captured, spending the remainder of the war as a POW before returning to Canada.
O’Brien and his wife Marlene had eight children, naming their first Leslie in honor of the killed airmen Knight. O'Brien passed away on 14 September 1985 in Edmonton, Alberta.
