Korp. V.T.D.
Adrianus was born on 19 February 1926 in Princenhage near Breda. He enlisted for military service with the Royal Netherlands Army in Harderwijk, where he was assigned as a corporal to the 35th Transport Troops (AAT), formed in the autumn of 1947.
Due to the outbreak of revolutionary violence in the Indonesian struggle for independence, he was sent to the Dutch East Indies to help restore peace and Dutch authority. In January 1948, he left for the East on the Grote Beer, landing a month later at Medan in North Sumatra.
The Transport and Supply Troops were responsible for the logistical support of the Dutch armed forces. Among other things, they transported food, ammunition and building materials to the supply stations. Special platoons of the Transport and Supply Troops were also involved in vehicle repairs.
This important support work was not without danger, as most of the work took place close to the front and the transports were regularly attacked by guerrillas.
Adrianus was killed in action on 7 December 1948 in Medan. Adrianus, aged 22, was the only casualty of his company. He was laid to rest at the Dutch military cemetery in Leuwigajah, Cimahi.
