Dpl. sold. 4-1 R.I.
Bartholomeus was born on 7 March 1927 in Oosterhout and lived in Rijen. As a conscript, he joined the Royal Netherlands Army in Assen in the autumn of 1946 and was assigned to the 4-1 Infantry Regiment.
Due to the outbreak of revolutionary violence during the Indonesian struggle for independence, he was sent to the Dutch East Indies to help restore peace and Dutch authority. At the end of May 1947, he left for the East on the Kota Baroe, where, after a sea voyage of just under a month, he landed at Palembang on Sumatra. There, Bartholomeus and his battalion were trained by KNIL soldiers and stationed at various posts around the city. During the First Police Action from 21 July to 4 August 1947, Adrianus was deployed to guard the city against revolutionary infiltrations.
Several actions were carried out by smaller platoons of the battalion to secure the oil fields in the area. After the Action, posts were manned throughout the interior to secure the newly conquered territory. Parts of the battalion were also added to the infantry on Java. This is how Bartholomeus eventually ended up in East Java.
In addition to the revolutionary fighting, tropical diseases and accidents also claim many victims among the Dutch troops. On 26 March 1948, Bartholomeus is killed in Kertadjaja near Surabaya after his prauw capsizes in the water. Bartholomeus is 21 years old and finds his final resting place in Bandung at the Dutch military cemetery Pandu.
