Period:
Second World War (1939-1945)
Rank:
Capitaine (Captain)
Unit:
Forces Françaises de l'Intérieur
Citation:
"Capitaine GALMAN started work in resistance soon after the armistice of June 1940 and during 1941 and 1942 played a large part in providing the resistance movement in south-eastern France with intelligence concerning the occupied zone. He travelled frequently between the two zones, and narrowly escaped arrest at the hands of the Gestapo and the Vichy police on several occasions. He was eventually arrested by the Germans, but escaped a short time after and continued his activities. He organised the infiltration of agents into the German and Vichy D/F services to safeguard the clandestine transmitting sets in south-eastern France.

Being actively sought by the Gestapo, Galimand left France in December 1942. After six months of captivity in Spain he came to England, and joined the Fighting French Forces in Great Britain. Here he played a large part in planning F.F.I. operations, and, in particular, the plans for the interruption by the V.F.L. of enemy communications on D-Day.
When E.M.F.F.I. (Etat Major des Forces Francaises de l'Interieur) was set up he worked in the closest collaboration with his British opposite numbers, and, in September 1944, was put in charge of the Echelon Liquidator of E.M.F.F.I. in London. In his capacity by his organising ability, his devotion to duty and his co-operation with his British colleagues, he was able to assist largely in the organisation of the final F.F.I. operations for the liberation of Europe.

For his excellent work for resistance, both in France and in London, and for his complete devotion to the Allied cause, it is recommended that Capitaine GALIMAND be appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (Mil.)(Hon)."
