Son of Gerrit Huisman and Adriana Petronella Kiel. Lived in Sliedrecht before leaving for the Dutch East Indies in 1938. Married to Susanna de Winter. Major Engineer on the cruiser Hr.Ms. De Ruyter. On 27 February 1942, the De Ruyter was torpedoed and sank during the Battle of the Java Sea. Jan Huisman was one of the 345 crew members who perished.
