Lt. Lamonby was educated at Culford School and completed an Officer Cadet Training Unit, graduating on 14 December 1940. That day, he was commissioned at The Suffolk Regiment [emergency commission]. Lamonby was seconded to the Special Boat Squadron (S Detachment). He went missing during a covert operation on Crete, and declared death weeks after.
