Sergeant Robinson served with 'E' Troop, No. 12 Commando and the Special Service Raiding Force (SSRF. On 1 April 1944, he was transferred to the 2nd Special Air Service (SAS), Army Air Corps. On 24 September 1944, while holding the rank of Sergeant with 2 SAS, he was wounded during operations in North West Europe.
