Biography

Unteroffizier Luftwaffe, Pilot Focke-Wulf 190A 5436. Killed in action during an air battle with a British Spitfire on 7 September 1942. His aircraft crashed into a reed bed in the Nieuwkoopse Plassen near the village of Nieuwkoop. When German soldiers arrived the next morning, the aircraft had already sunk so far into the peat soil that it was no longer possible to recover the aircraft and the body of Ludwig Platzer, which was still inside.

Today, a large white cross adorns the site of the marked field grave, which is registered as a private military field grave.
