Biography

Gefreiter Bernhard was a bronze medalist in Tandem Cycling (with Karl Köther) at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics, where a semifinal walkover was overturned after a Dutch team restart. He placed fourth in the Men's Sprint and was crowned German Sprint Champion the same year.

Later served in the 205-Luftw.Bau.Kp.2/See. Bernhard died in the Luftwaffe lazaret in Amsterdam. Originally buried in Nieuwe Oosterbegraafplaats, Amsterdam; reinterred in Ysselsteyn between October 1947 and March 1948.
