Biography

Flight Lieutenant Leonard Vincent King, Spitfire pilot RAF Voluntary Reserve 611 Squadron RAF.

During an attack on a German trailer travelling on the motorway, loaded with requisitioned bicycles, his aircraft was hit by German anti-aircraft fire. The Spitfire dove low over the road, making it an easy target, and was accidentally hit itself. The aircraft crashed into an osier bed near Sluisweg in Neder-Hardinxveld. He was killed in the crash. Three days later, he was buried in the cemetery at Kromme Gat in Boven-Hardixveld.
