Alarcón, Alfonso

Nationality:
Spanish

Biography

Until January 1942, Señor Alacon served as the personal pilot for the Spanish governor of Fernando Po. He was recruited by Richard Lippett and paid £50 for two tasks as part of Operation Postmaster:

1. A flight over the port of Santa Isabel so Lippett could take photographs.
2. Housing the 1st Commando Group.

After the operation, Señor Alacon was arrested and interrogated by the Spanish authorities. Alacon was suspended without pay on 25 January 1942, though his lawyer, Captain Enrique Oliveda Medrano, secured half‑salary on account of his family responsibilities. Prosecuted by a Military Court over the ship hijacking case, he was formally dismissed from his post on 10 April. That October he requested permission to return to Spain, settling in Burjassot (Valencia); the Ministry of the Navy covered his passage on the Isla de Tenerife. In February 1943 the Naval Court dismissed the charges and cleared him. Alarcón applied to rejoin the colonial administration as a civilian pilot the following month, but no evidence survives that his request was granted.
