Malabo International Airport

During Operation Postmaster (1942), the airport played a key role. From this location, secret reconnaissance flights were flown to photograph two target ships in the harbor of Santa Isabel (present-day Malabo). It also served as an escape point for secret agents, either immediately before or after the operation.

Until the mid-1990s, before the oil discovery along the coast, the terminal consisted of a simple metal hangar and handled only one international flight, primarily for government use. Since then, the airport has grown into a regional hub for both passenger and freight traffic. During the Nigerian Civil War, the airport served as a base for flights to Biafra.
