Biography

Oswald Julius Wilhelm Poche joined the Nazi Party on 1 December 1930 and the SS shortly thereafter. By December 1939, he was serving as Inspector of the Security Police and SD at the state police control center in Stettin (now Szczecin), a role he held until March 1941. That month, he was appointed chief of the Gestapo at the Lindenstrasse station in Frankfurt am Main. In this capacity, Poche actively implemented the Nazi regime’s Final Solution policies. Between 10 October 1941 and 24 September 1942, he organized ten major deportations of approximately 10,000 Jews from Frankfurt to concentration and extermination camps. After the war, Poche was interned and later resumed work as a civil servant in West Germany. He died on 22 September 1962 in Dannenberg.
