Fusilier Edwards enlisted in the Royal Welch Fusiliers before being seconded to the commandos. He subsequently served with B Troop, No. 1 Commando, and took part in Operation Chopper. During that action, he and a fellow commando were killed at the age of only 20. Both men were left behind on the beach and later buried in the cemetery at Luc-sur-Mer. Their commanding officer, Hemming, was buried in the same cemetery after his death.
