Biography

Johannes van Lieshout was a captain of the MV Oost-Vlaaderen, a German Merchant Navy supply vessel serving the Channel Islands, perished alongside Simion Timofei when the ship was sunk by the RAF. At the time, it was transporting cement and weaponry from St. Malo to Guernsey, destined for use in fortifying the island. He has a German gravestone in Fort George Military Cemetery.
