In the early morning of May 10, 1940, Conscript Corporal Van Dijk was wounded by German machine gun fire near the corner of Betje Wolfstraat, near the school that served as the 1st Company's barracks. He succumbed to his wounds on May 12 at the Municipal Hospital in Dordrecht. The OGS incorrectly lists his date of death as May 10, 1940.
