Awarded for distinguishing himself during the fighting in early 1945. Between the 18.01.-20.02.1945 he repeatedly displayed merit in his role as a regimental commander. But he and his regiment particularly shone during the retreat of the Panzerkorps GD within that time period. Their efforts were invaluable in ensuring that the unit could newly reform west of the Lausitzer Neiße following an orderly retreat. A new frontline between Guben and Görlitz was established following the 20.02.1945.
