Biography

Henry Allan McCartney entered the Navy V-5 program in July 1941 and started serving in World War Two as a dive-bomber pilot with VMSB-142. He had shot down a Betty bomber with VMO-251 over Guadalcanal and three Zekes with VMF-121. He was credited with shooting down a Zero as a Black Sheep, making him an ace.

After the war he was placed with the Night Fighter Squadron at Vero Beach and after several appointments, retired as Colonel in 1966.

Career:
December 14th, 1955 - June 8th 1956: Commanding Officer Marine Fighter Squadron 533 (VMF-533).
