Awarded for his actions near Minturno in the sector of the 94. Infanterie-Division (located on the extreme right wing of the Cassino front). Here a critical situation developed on the 17.01.1944 when an attack by the British 5th and 56th divisions at 21:00 managed to cross the Garigliano. However the Germans were ultimately able to repel the attackers and frustrate their efforts to break through the Gustav line. Hahm and his Abteilung, which were located as a ready reserve behind the frontline, contributed significantly to the defensive success despite the unsuitability of the terrain for tanks. Hahm would be recognized appropriately for his actions here.
