“The Führer has awarded the Knight’s Cross to Feldwebel Fleck, Zugführer in the 2./Grenadier-Regiment 270. On the 29.12.1944, following an enemy penetration, he recaptured the new frontline gap of 150 metres with just a few men in a daring counterthrust launched on his own initiative. Thereafter he held off the renewed enemy onslaught with the same few men. Feldwebel Fleck comes from the Saarland and is a gardener in civilian life.”
