Period:
Second World War (1939-1945)
Rank:
General d. Pioniere
Unit:
Kommandierender General VI. Armeekorps
Awarded on:
August 23rd, 1941
Förster received the Knight’s Cross according to the following justification…

“During the attack against the Stalin Line the VI. Armee-Korps (commanded by General der Pioneer Förster) forced the defensive belt around Polozk on the 15.07.1941. After achieving a 12 km deep breakthrough on the same day the Korps also captured the city of Polozk itself as well as the nearby crossing over the Daugava. While the Korps was widening the breach to a width of 35 km it wrested over 100 modern combat installations (together with in-between fortifications and dug in AFVs) from the bitterly defending foe. The capture of Polozk was of decisive operational importance for the continuation of the 9. Armee’s operations east of the Daugava.”
