Period:

Rank:
Oberjäger (Corporal)

Geschützführer 16. / Gebirgsjäger-Regiment 13
Awarded on:
February 8th, 1944
The following divisional order of the day, dated 15.02.1944, describes why Heubuch was awarded the Knight’s Cross. It was awarded for an action northwest of Pogrebischtsche…

“The Führer and Supreme Commander of the Wehrmacht has awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross to Oberjäger Heubuch of the 16./Gebirgs-Jäger-Regiment 13.

As commander of a Kampfgruppe, Oberjäger Heubuch eliminated a tank with a magnetic anti-tank grenade during an enemy armoured breakthrough. He then manned the still operational gun of this tank, and with it destroyed a further 2 T-34s while also repulsing the attack of an enemy battalion at very close range with his weak Kampfgruppe. In total 6 destroyed tanks and 60-70 dead Bolsheviks were the visible successes of the bold Kampfgruppe Heubuch, whose outstanding fighting spirit contributed heavily to the defensive success of the entire III./Gebirgs-Jäger-Regiment 13.

I congratulate Oberjäger Heubuch for receiving this high honour on behalf of the whole Division.

Oberjäger Heubuch is the 18th Knight’s Cross Holder of the 4. Gebirgs-Division.”
