Biography

Teodor Trifan Breharu, the son of Trifan and Rafila, was born on March 6th 1914 in the village of Petresti in Mintiul Gherlei, Cluj, Rumania. He graduated the primary and secondary school in the city of Gherla. In Cluj-Napoca he graduated the Faculty of Judicial Science and became diplomat and jurist. After graduating the Infantry Officer in Reserve School he received the under-lieutenant rank in reserve (r) on June 8th 1940. He was then incorporated in the 81st Infantry Regiment from Dej city and subsequently transferred to the 91st Infantry Regiment from Alba-Iulia city, with whom he left for the East front war. He was a company commander, at Stalingrad (U.S.S.R.). Her he finally was taken prisoner and was taken to the Oranki (U.S.S.R.) concentration camp. Later he accepted voluntarily the enrollment to the "Tudor Vladimirescu" Division for taking part in liberation his country. He became under-lieutenant in the Second Infantry Regiment and took part in the battles for Ilieni-Sfantul Gheorghe, Baile Felix, Oradea, Debretin (Hungary), and towards the Hron river. For those achievements he received the rank of Captain.

After the Second World War he served in several units, as Chief of the Battle Preparation Office (Second Regiment, Mountain Hunters, Dej city) and in superior economical services. During his career he was treated with mistrust for he was not a member of the communist party. Finally he tried to apply for this but his request was denied for the reasons he had received the medal of "Mihai Viteazul" on the battlefront against Union of Soviet Socialist Republic (U.S.S.R.) and some other reasons. The medal he had to hand over to the authorities and was transferred to the reserves with the rank of Captain. He was held back in his civil career and only obtained the job of main economist after very hard work and proving himself to be loyal. After Romanian revolution from December 1989, his valuable medals received for army braveness were (re)confirmed. He took part at national festivities and symposiums, at oath swearing in military units and was given the title of Honorific Citizen of Cluj-Napoca city and was given back all the citizen rights. Finally he received the military rank of Brigade General (in reserve) according to the decree no. 172 from May 8th 2000.
