Period:
Second World War (1939-1945)
Rank:
Unteroffizier
Unit:
Geschützführer 14.(Panzerjäger) / Grenadier-Regiment 19 / 7.Infanterie-Division
Awarded on:
May 15th, 1944
On the 26.03.1944 the Soviets were able to penetrate the lines of the 7. Infanterie-Division near Nieczatow (in the Pripet marshes). They broke into the rear of a Ski-Jäger-Regiment attached to the Division and interdicted the road in the area, which led straight to the German artillery positions. Only the heavy Pak commanded by Unteroffizier Kral stood in the way of the Soviet advance along this road.

In a heavy firefight Kral used his available HE shells to good effect and was able to bring the attempted enemy attack to a halt. For this brave achievement he would be decorated with the Knight’s Cross.
Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes
