Biography

Cesar Fernando Basa was born in 1915 and was one of the premier fighter pilots in the Philippine Air Force. On the morning of 12th December 1941, Fifty-four Japanese bombers and their fighter escort atacked the Batangas Air Field. Captain Jesus Villamor attacked them with five Filipino fighter pilots. Lieutenant Basa arrived in the air battle from an air patrol mission with only 15 minutes of fuel left in his tanks. Without hesitation he mixed himself in the fightings. When his plain was shot down, he managed to bail out with his parachute. Japanese fighterplanes however killed him with their machine guns while he was gliding towards the ground. Basa Air Base in Floridablanca, Pampanga has been named after him.
