Citation:
Oscar L. Gordon, 01310594, Second Lieutenant, Infantry, Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action. On 11 July 1943, approximately 4 miles south of ***(deleted), Lieutenant Gordon, accompanying an isolated parachute unit, was engaged by the enemy. To effect the withdrawal of his force and wounded men toward friendly lines, he voluntarily manned a light machine gun and advanced toward the enemy. While engaged in this self-sacrificing mission in the face of severe hostile fire Lieutenant Gordon lost his life. Entered military service from Littleton, New Hampshire.
