During the retreat of the Führer-Grenadier-Division in the direction of Stockerau-Kornneuerburg in April 1945, the unit became involved in heavy fighting with the Soviets around Bisamberg-Breitenklee. Here Unteroffizier Matheja destroyed 6 enemy tanks with Panzerfausts, and was consequently submitted for the Knight’s Cross.
