Theil was a former member of the Mussert garde (Mussert guard). This organisation was founded by Henk Feldmeijer and Meinoud Rost van Tonningen as an alternative to the Nationale Jeugdstorm (another youth organisation of the NSB). The Mussert garde was orientated on the great Germanic stream within the NSB, modelled after the Algemeine SS from Germany and can be seen as a forerunner of the Nederlandsche SS (Dutch SS).
