"This N.C.O. was responsible for operation and maintenance of a Regimental Exchange at Malta during the months of March and April 1942. The exchange was situated in a building in an extremely exposed position on a gun position adjacent to the Submarine Base. During the whole of the period this N.C.O. showed coolness, resourcefulness, and was an outstanding example to the men under his charge in the face of some of the severest attacks on the Submarine Base, until the exchanged had to be evacuated to a magazine. In spite of the main cables being cut on numerous occasions by shrapnel, this N.C.O. managed to restore temporary communications and supply vital information to Gun Positions until technical help and equipment arrived."
